Having a C-Section is often troubling and stressful. After a long, draw out labor, you are told that the doctor is going to prep you for surgery. Then, to add insult to injury you are left with a painful incision and must remain in the hospital longer than you anticipated. A C-Section is no fun and requires a lot of recovery. In addition to all the good advice like resting and letting others help you out, you should, most definitely consider acupuncture after c-sections as a tool to put in your bag.
Evidence That Acupuncture After A C Section Helps
An article published in The Chinese Journal of Medicine in 2009 detailed a study about acupuncture after a C section. They followed 60 women who had C sections. The women who were in the group receiving acupuncture after a C section said that they had less pain, asked for pain medication later and with less frequency than the control group. Acupuncture after a C section is shown to work!
The reason why acupuncture for a C section is bound to work is for the same reason we have discussed throughout this blog, Acupuncture is shown to assist in reducing pain. Acupuncture, that art of sticking wee, little needles at various places in your body, is fabulous at pain reduction and pain management. A study at Duke University in 2008 showed that use of acupuncture led to less use of pain medication.
The best part of using acupuncture after a C section…could there be a part better than less pain? I don’t know….is that without the abundance of pain medication in your system it will be much easier for you to breast feed and not have to worry about your little one getting a taste of that nasty pain medication. Acupuncture After a C Section is worth it, in so many ways.
