As a follow up to our last blog, it seemed only reasonable to follow up with a post surgery blog. When I was writing the pre surgery blog, I had no idea what I was getting into by having surgery on my torso. Despite my anxiety, people kept telling me that this surgery was “no big deal.” However, Leah knew better. She suggested I schedule post surgery acupuncture three weeks after the surgery. Thank goodness I listened. Post surgery acupuncture helps with all sorts of issues that we will get to, however, my experience may be like some of yours who have had laproscopic surgery. See with this sort of knife wielding, they blow you up with air before rooting around in your gut. I didn’t have a lot of pain but I had a great deal of discomfort from the air, even three weeks later. Immediately, after my post surgery acupuncture, I felt that feeling of my organs sloshing around inside me subside. It was such a relief!
How Can Post Surgery Acupuncture Help Me?
Duke University did a study in 2007 that found that post surgery acupuncture significantly reduced post surgery pain and reduced the need for strong narcotic pain killers. I didn’t have much post surgery pain, however my post surgery acupuncture did a number on the nagging points where they cut into me. But wait, there is more that post surgery acupuncture can do besides reduce pain, which for me, is a biggie.
- It can aide in the reduction of scarring!
- Sometimes after surgery, you get a sense of itchiness, called pruritis. Post surgery acupuncture reduces the incidence of pruritis.
- Post surgery acupuncture reduces swelling
- It helps with dizziness, upset stomach, and nausea
- It can even help a person regain their appetite
I, personally, experienced such a benefit from post surgery acupuncture. If I were you, I would schedule my surgery and then immediately, schedule my post surgery acupuncture three weeks later. Side effects of surgery are miserable. Let acupuncture help!
